Clubs are a great thing to get involved in, especially freshman year. There are tons of clubs at college and there should be something that catches your interest and if not, see about whether or not you can start a club.
Clubs are a great way to network- and yes networking is an important thing in college- and make friends. It also gives you a sense of belonging. I personally didn't join many clubs and am regretting it now, as I will be entering my Junior year. I did join a club for a short time in my Sophomore year but the club fell apart over time, but I still have those connections and friends.
But again, networking is important, so get involved, meet people, and be open to experiences that come your way! You never know who might be a good connection once you leave college.
