The freshman dorms were located near downtown, only a twenty minute walk, if you wanted to get to the end of the main street, Broughton.
I was lucky that my mom had come down with me to help move me in. After we were moved in we decided to explore downtown, which was really small. There was the main street, Broughton, which had plenty of stores like Urban Outfitters, and food places like Panera Bread. Then there was City Market where there were plenty of art galleries, and on the weekends local bands would play. There was River Street which was the tourist spot. It had tons of ice cream places, and tour cars, and great restaurants.
Getting to know where everything was saved me once school had started. As my mom and I were walking downtown my mom had this goofy grin on her face.
"What's up?" I asked in confusion.
"There are just a ton of guys checking you out," She stated as I flushed.
Once I paid attention, I noticed what she said was true. See, back home I went to a small private school where the guys were rich jerks and the girls were rich bitches. I wasn't rich so I didn't fit in. I was comfortable, but my house looked like a dump compared to their fancy mansions, so I wasn't used to being looked at, or noticed much.
I was flattered though, I had never before that moment thought of myself as someone that could catch a guys attention. I always noticed guys around me, but if I was ever going to go out with someone it couldn't just be anyone. I had standards, of course; although in today's society it seemed that people our age didn't have standards and hooked up with anything that had a dick/vagina and moved.
I think it's a good thing to know what you are looking for and know not to settle for anything. For instance, I knew that if I ever wanted to be with someone they had to be smart, relatively attractive, and have good morals. Maybe you think I just described a nerd, but there are some pretty hot nerd out there! Don't over look them! Just be open to experiences. That's something I learned to do, and it ended up being a good thing.
XOXO Anna
