Tips for the first day of classes can be endless.
But for me, I made sure I printed out the syllabus, made sure I made a first good impression by dressing nicely and trying to talk to the students in the class, and after class ended I introduced myself to the teacher so they would know me.
Overall I made more friends that way, and I also really got to bond with my teachers. I still talk to my professor from Freshman year that I had first quarter. My school is on a quarter system so things are a bit different. Plus, that means connections! That professor, he has connections with Showtime and HBO. So that's cool, if I ever need a letter of recommendation I can go to him, or other professors that I actually made the effort to stick out to.
And don't think it's stupid or nerdy to do. It's a smart thing to do.
